What Does a Differential Do?
A differential is a component in most modern vehicles, especially those with all-wheel drive and full-time four-wheel drive. The differential receives and splits the torque from the engine to the front and rear axles.
While older model vehicles operate without a differential, newer models benefit from the adaptability of this component. Due to the rate of rotation of the front and rear axles that can differ given the circumstance, a differential is necessary to distribute power equally. This results in a smooth turning experience while driving.
