Tires are the base of your vehicle and are important for your vehicle's fuel efficiency, comfort, and control. While tires don’t require a lot of maintenance you should make it a habit to check them regularly for a few particular things.

Maintaining tire pressure is important because it reduces the chances of punctures, increases ride comfort, and decreases the risk of abnormal tire wear. When you measure, your vehicles tire pressures you should do so before you begin driving for the day. Measuring tire pressure after driving can cause confusion because as you drive your tires heat up and the tire pressure increases.

The Penny Test

Utilizing the penny test you can check your tire tread and make an informed decision about your tire health. To administer the test, you take a penny and turn it so Lincoln's head is upside down. Place the penny between the tread of your tire and if you can see the top of Lincoln's head you need to consider new tires. Remember, you should test all four tires and multiple spots on all tires to make sure there are no irregular wear patterns.

If you do the penny test and find that your tread is low call our Service Center here in San Antonio, TX for an inspection.
