About fifteen years ago there really started to be this explosion of alternate-fuel automobiles popping up at dealerships all over the country, and right around the turn of the century we really didn’t have any idea yet which would win out. Hybrids always have been easiest to produce and took the early lead but all-electric models and hydrogen fuel cell drivetrains haven’t gone away either. These days it seems clear that hybrids are not the long-term solution but rather a short-term stopgap. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, meanwhile, are really starting to catch on and Honda isn’t planning on sitting out the next wave of popular green automotive technology.

In fact, Honda has plans to release the all-new five-passenger Honda Clarity Fuel Cell sedan in the near future. The first releases of this exciting, revolutionary Honda car will be in California since that’s the only state with a viable infrastructure of hydrogen fueling stations in place. Still, if things go well with this model it would be easy to see more and more stations spread eastward.

Here at Gillman Honda San Antonio, we’re absolutely on board with a vehicle so environmentally-friendly that all it emits is water vapor. There is no cleaner way to drive a vehicle than that, which helps explain why Honda is so thrilled about this concept moving forward.\

"Honda believes that hydrogen can play a critical role in addressing global climate change and accelerating progress toward a more sustainable, ultra-low-carbon mobility future," said Steve Center, vice president of the Environmental Business Development Office at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "We are excited to deliver the all-new zero-emissions Clarity Fuel Cell, a spacious five-passenger fuel cell sedan with the range and refueling time of a conventional car. The Clarity can meet customer needs for performance, safety and advanced telematics, while addressing society's environmental and energy concerns."

Honda customers in San Antonio, TX won’t be able to get hold of this vehicle just yet, but something like it could happen for customers somewhere down the road, and it’s easy to see why that’s so exciting for Honda dealerships and drivers all over the country.
