The completely-redesigned 2016 Honda Civic certainly is drumming up a lot of publicity these days, as we just talked about the new national television spot for the sedan in our last post and now we turn our attention to the fact that it recently was named the 2016 North American Car of the Year at this month’s Detroit Auto Show. Few all-around automotive accolades are considered more prestigious than this one, and it’s safe to say that every Honda employee in the entire country right now is thrilled to see the fruits of a lot of hard work pay off in such a delightfully public way.
The reasons for taking home the award really aren’t that surprising since the new Civic not only offers seemingly endless variants and trims and powertrains, but does so in a way that makes each and every one of those options undeniably desirable to just about any type of consumer. Already the best-selling Honda automobile of all time and still one of the best-selling models in the entire industry, the Civic is now even better, more modern and more varied. Of course it was named North American Car of the Year.
“The all-new Civic was developed and is built in North America, making this North American Car of the Year win even sweeter,” said Honda Division senior vice president and general manager Jeff Conrad. “Civic is a cornerstone of the Honda lineup, and we’re delighted that the automotive press has recognized the new levels of styling, performance, advanced technology, safety and value that characterize the new Civic.”
It’s the second time the Civic has been given this accolade, and our hope that this esteemed new Honda car will take the honor and run in a year where we hope it takes back its segment.
