If a consumer was told that they could get a cheeseburger with fries and a drink for $3, they’d probably think that was a good deal, just like they’d be perfectly happy spending $12 for a burger made from royal Angus cows. In this scenario, the $3 burger sounds like the better value, but one thing missing in this conversation is the quality of that cheaper burger. Surely, there must be something of reasonably high quality that also remains affordable, right?
Buying a car offers the same sort of philosophical questions but on a much grander scale. There are budget cars, many of which offer very little other than low prices, and there are luxury vehicles that offer everything up to and sometimes including the kitchen sink, but for a cost. Most vehicles lie somewhere in the middle, though, and navigating that middle ground can be tricky. That’s why U.S. News[1] and World Report puts out an annual list of what they consider to be the “Best Cars for the Money.”
For the 2016 model year, we were pleasantly surprised to see that Honda won more segments than any other automaker in the industry thanks to strong showings from the 2016 Honda Fit, 2016 Honda HR-V, 2016 Honda Civic, 2016 Honda Pilot and 2016 Honda Odyssey. According to U.S. News, no autos in any of these segments were able to offer more for a better price while also holding up well enough over time to justify the long-term investment.
In other words, if you’re buying a Honda car, SUV or minivan, you’re getting the most out of your money. We all know that the $3 burger is the most cost efficient and that the $12 burger is a special treat, but the trick is finding the best $5 burger possible. Honda, apparently, cooks precisely that brand of beef.
