Once upon a time, the San Diego Comics Convention was a small gathering of comic lovers that met once a year to share in what was then a niche common interest. In the early ‘70s, when the convention was still in its infancy, only about 300 people showed up in any given year to talk about how much they loved Superman, Batman, and Captain America.

Today, the San Diego Comic-Con International draws in over 130,000 people every year, with an economic impact of almost $200 million annually for the San Diego area, meaning it’s a perfect opportunity for Honda to team up with one of the brands Comic-Con attendees love most in SEGA.

More specifically, Honda developed a special custom edition 2016 Honda Civic Touring Sedan for Comic-Con that featured a number of details that harken back to the classic SEGA video game, “Sonic the Hedgehog.” In fact, they are calling it the “Sonic Civic,” and it’s one of the more entertaining special editions we’ve ever seen.

Obviously, it never will go to production, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome. The exterior features a custom paint job full of references to the game, as well as special wheels that do the same. The seats inside are blue leather with embroidered “Sonic” logos, and in the trunk is a slick audiovisual system that includes a retractable 32-inch TV so the driver and passengers can pull off to the side of the road and play the actual “Sonic” game whenever they want.

While Comic-Con is over now, we loved seeing the fun promotion make some headlines late last month. It was a cool idea to show that the car can be great for all sorts of different consumers, and with 130,000 people rolling through the convention, plenty of eyes certainly found their way to the “Sonic Civic” this summer.
