It’s hard to take something that San Antonio consumers love as much as the Honda CR-V and make it even more loveable somehow, but that’s what Honda is attempting to do as it develops the next-gen 2018 Honda CR-V for some time in the 2017 calendar year.

For years now, consumers have shown their love for the Honda CR-V, and now Honda believes it can draw in an even wider swath of consumers by offering a new plug-in hybrid drivetrain in the newest version of the automobile. Obviously, we don’t yet know what kind of efficiency numbers this drivetrain will provide, but plug-in models typically do great along those lines and even offer short-term commuters the option of running only on electric power for increasingly impressive bursts.

This doesn’t mean that Honda is scrapping the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that serves as the base drivetrain in the current iteration of the CR-V. Rather, it signals an increase in options for buyers who really would like something ultra-efficient in an ever-changing environmental landscape.

There will, of course, be other changes in the new generation of CR-V, but so far the details of those upgrades have come only in rumor form. Some have even said that a long wheelbase version could be coming to accommodate seven passengers rather than the five we see in the current CR-V, but we’ll have to wait to see if that particular rumbling comes to fruition.

As your Honda dealership, we can't wait to sell any version of the CR-V produced here at Gillman Honda San Antonio, and we’ll do it with pride because we truly do understand what a great crossover it is. The added drivetrain option will only make it even better.
