U.S. News recently put out an article entitled, "When Is It Time to Break Up With Your Car?" and it explores the many different ways that a consumer may ultimately decide that it's time to give up on a current car and dive headfirst into a new one.

We here at Gillman Honda San Antonio found it pretty interesting because we've found that there aren't a whole lot of people itching to break up with their Honda vehicles for a number of reasons, not the least of which is their reliability.

In fact, according to the article, which cited a survey from IHS Automotive, drivers are currently keeping their vehicles for almost 78 months before moving on to something different, whereas in 2006 that number was much closer to 53 months. A big part of this is that automakers like Honda are building better and better automobiles every year, and with better quality comes more longevity. This sort of thing was inevitable.

At the same time, though, it can be silly to hold onto a vehicle too long, no matter how attached one may be. If the cost of repairs each month exceeds what the monthly cost of a new car payment would be, it's probably time to move on.

Of course there also are plenty of people that hear about a new Honda CR-V or Honda Accord and want to jump at the opportunity to own an updated version, even if the car they currently own is only a couple of years old.

It's a delicate balance trying to find out when to move on from a vehicle, but as your friendly neighborhood Honda dealership, we're eager to help you make the best decision and find the absolute best replacement among all the great choices Honda provides.
